Tips on How to Spend Ramadan

Allah (SWT) has blessed and honored mankind with the revelation of the Quran that was sent towards Prophet Muhammad (SAW) so that all humanity can benefit from its message and the example of the Prophet. The Quran was revealed during the month of Ramadan which only adds to the blessing and honor of this month, which is why it is imperative for us Muslims to make the most of this blessed time and honor the word of Allah (SWT) and bow down to Him in obedience. Allah (SWT) is the Most Merciful, so it is always advised that no matter how bad you think you are, or how many sins you have acquired to not to lose hope and ask forgiveness, for indeed Allah (SWT) forgives all sins, we only need to ask.

Allah (SWT) says, “The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.” (Quran 2:185)

Perhaps the best way to honor Allah’s (SWT) book is to recite and memorize it as much as we can, and it is especially important that we make the most of this opportunity in the month of Ramadan so that we can harness the greatest amount of reward.

Ibn‘Abbaas (RA) reported that, “The Prophet (SAW) was the most generous of people and he used to be more generous during the month of Ramadan, when he used to meet Jibreel (AS)) and review the Quran with him. During this time, the Prophet,  was faster (in his generosity and bringing good) than a blowing wind”.  [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

From this hadith we can take the lesson that it is good to review and learn the Quran during the month of Ramadan, either alone or in groups and the constant recitation is also recommended. It is known that some of the Salaf (righteous predecessors) used to recite the entire Quran in Ramadan every three nights, and some used to do it every seven nights, like Qataadah (RA) and others used to finish it every ten nights. Ibn Rajab said, “The Salaf used to recite the Quran in the month of Ramadan during prayer and other times; Qataadah used to teach the Quran in the month of Ramadan. Whenever Ramadan started, Az-Zuhri  used to say: ‘This is the month of reciting the Quran and giving food’.”
